Meet Your Instructor
Hi, I'm Derek Bindner. I'm a Brazilian Jiu-jitsu blackbelt under Professor Dragan Konjevic of Alliance BJJ, with additional blackbelts in Japanese Ju-jitsu, Yoshinkan Aikido, Tae Kwon Do, and Goju Ryu Karate. I have trained and competed in martial arts since 1982, and founded the Bindner Academy in 1997. I am a movement and breath-work enthusiast and incorporate these elements into my training and seminars.

I believe in the precision of technique and the efficiency of movement. As an older practitioner, I can not always rely on my physical attributes, so I put good sound mechanics to use for mat success. Using angles, leverage, connection, weight distribution, control, proper body-mechanics with breathing, timing and biomechanics have kept me on the mats for decades.

In my opinion, from over 32 years of Jiu-jitsu training and evaluated experiences, using this approach keeps the possibility and frequency of injuries at a minimum, and is the key to longevity in the art.

This is what I teach, and I am excited to share it with you on the mats.
